There are some books that simply stick with you, no matter what. “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline is one that will stick with me for quite a while to come. 

As you may- or may not- have noticed, I tend to pick up and read just about anything that piques my interest even a little bit. I found this book at my son’s school book fair a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn’t resist getting it (and a couple other books) for myself.  

What first intrigued me about the book was it’s simple title- “Orphan Train”. Most book titles hint at what the book is about, so I figured this was probably a historical novel- one of my favorite genres. As it turns out, this novel was that- and more. Although the characters are not real, they are written in such a way that they very well could be. The historical events that the book is based on actually happened in much the way they’re described. The emotions the characters feel are so well described that you are often pulled in and feel the same things along the way.  

It is not often that I find books written to the same level of depth as this one was. When I do find one of these gems, it’s hard to put it down. I hope that you’ll check it out, and that it will help you to value your family in much the same way as these characters learn to value theirs.
