Welcome!
Albuquerque Wedding Photographer
I’m so excited to start my journey as an Albuquerque Wedding Photographer! I never thought I'd actually be here. Owning a business is something many people dream about when they're young, but only a few make it happen. Honestly, I only dreamed about having my own business for a moment. I never thought it was something I’d really want or could do. But here I am!
New Mexico Business Owner
Anyway, as I’m just starting out, there are a ton of new things to learn. For example, New Mexico doesn’t have a sales tax; we have gross receipts taxes, which is pretty much the same thing. It’s also surprisingly easy to set up a sole proprietorship here. All you need is a tax ID number from the state and a business license application for your county or municipality.
That’s just the start. I hope you’ll stick with me as I navigate all of this. I promise I’ll do my best not to mess up too badly!
Update: 8/9/2023
Wow! When I wrote the original post, I was a brand new Albuquerque Wedding Photographer and a brand new business owner. Little did I know there was a million things to learn! And honestly, I’m still learning! Back then, I wanted to shoot everything: weddings, portraits, landscapes, commercial, headshots, astrophotography—you name it, and I wanted to try it. And I did! I learned that I’m not cut out to be an astrophotographer (I don’t have the patience for it) and that shooting commercial properties isn’t for me (it’s hard to make a car wash look good!). But I discovered that weddings, portraits, and landscapes are truly my passion. I love telling stories and capturing moments that take a person’s breath away. I love helping people preserve their memories for generations. And I love what I get to do every day.
Becoming a great wedding photographer has been no joke. It’s been a tough road with a steep learning curve, and I’m still navigating the challenges. I’ve had to learn how to operate a camera in manual mode (which is not easy!), and also how to be a good boss, balance the books, maintain a website, manage social media, create content, and open up so you all can get to know me better.
Albuquerque, and New Mexico in general, is home to many incredible wedding and portrait photographers. While there are plenty of clients to go around, it’s hard not to compare myself to others. They’re awesome, and it’s challenging not to measure myself against them.
Looking back at this post almost ten years later, I remember the excitement and passion I had. I remember the fears, worries, and dreams. And truth be told? I’m still excited, still passionate, still dreaming, and still anxious. But this journey has been 100% worth it, and I hope you’ll continue along with me!
