American Cancer Society's Relay for Life- Albuquerque, New Mexico
Attend an American Cancer Society event. I challenge you to do so. Because if you do, you will learn what an incredible event and community that the people who regularly participate in these events have formed. These events are both emotional and physical. They are sad and exciting. They are fun and serious. And all that goes on at these events comes together cohesively.
East Side Band-o-Rama- Valencia High School, Los Lunas, NM
Last night I attended the Valencia Band-o-Rama concert at Valencia High School. The concert featured performances by Tomé Elementary, Bosque Farms Elementary, Valencia Elementary, Peralta Elementary, Valencia Middle School, and Valencia High School. The point behind this particular concert is March is Music in Our Schools Month, and we celebrate this by putting on a free, community-wide concert to remind people of the value of learning music in school.
Mr. Cash's Promotion to Sergeant- Belen, NM National Guard Armory
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Nicholas Cash since we were Freshmen in High School, and I have watched as he served six years of active duty in the U.S. Navy after we graduated high school. He has been stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, as well as Yokosuka, Japan and was able to travel the world with the Navy. After he was honorably discharged several years ago, he and his wife and kids settled back here in Los Lunas to attend college and begin their civilian lives. But the call of country and service were always in the back of Nick’s mind.
VHS Basketball
Of all the sports that are routinely played in American high schools, basketball is the one I happen to know the most about. And, because of this, I was able to fully appreciate watching our VHS basketball teams play last Saturday against LLHS!
Workshop with Maura Jane Photography
I am always working to learn new skills and techniques, tips and tricks, and business management so that I can do my absolute best to serve you guys, so when Maura of Maura Jane Photography hosted her first workshop last November, I had to attend! Maura is someone that I’ve admired and looked to for inspiration in my own work, as well as a friend and fellow photographer.
ACS CAN Day at the Capital- Santa Fe, New Mexico
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to escort a small group of students to Santa Fe, via the RailRunner from Los Lunas to attend the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network day of lobbying at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe. Whew! That was a mouthful, but the day was incredible!
VHS Soccer
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, with the U.S. hosting several professional teams, and most nations in the world hosting a National Team. And, I’m sure that any true soccer fan can list off all the stats of his or her favorite player and team.
VHS Cross-Country
From June through November of each year, there are a select group of kids that can be found running (literally, not figuratively!) around town for miles on end. They often run through sand dunes, up hills, and ‘round and ‘round large structures to build their endurance. These kids are members of the Valencia and Los Lunas High School’s Cross-Country teams, and they purposely run through our desert for miles for FUN!
Valencia High School Football- Los Lunas, NM
One of the things that I absolutely loved about high school band was getting to sit in the stands with my friends and watch every home game the Los Lunas Tigers played. I loved seeing the community come together to support our team, and to spend time with friends and family. It also helped that my parents, brother, and grandmother were also there supporting me! I have to say, though, that there is nothing like watching a small-town high school team play in their home stadium. Even though we lost more often than we won, the town, the team, and the school all had a great Friday night.
Girl Scout Silver Science Event at UNM-VC
In 2014, Ms. Casey Hoyt and Ms. Donna Angelus, seeing the importance of STEAM in girls’ futures, planned an executed the first Girl Scout Silver Science event for Girl Scouts in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Event activities included Kool Aid Bottle Rockets, Baking Soda Rockets, Mapping DNA, Film Cannister Rockets, and an introduction to First LEGO League- a group that encourages people to form teams to build a LEGO robot and program it to complete certain tasks before competing to see which team has done the best job each year.
The Valencia Classic- a Marching Band Competition!
I was a band nerd. I played flute from 6th through 9th grade, and then switched to saxophone for the rest of High School and College. My husband- Justin- was a band nerd- it’s how we met! So, it’s safe to say that band nerds always have, and always will have a special place in my heart. But, it’s much more than that! There is a camaraderie that develops when you’re in band, that I’ve never seen replicated anywhere else.
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta- 2018!!
Guys, I love going to the Balloon Fiesta every year. I feel like a giddy little kid when all of the balloons start inflating and launching! I absolutely love to see all of the shapes and colors that pepper our beautiful New Mexico skies!
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
2018 was the second year that I had the pleasure of photographing the Albuquerque Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. This year was the 19th annual Making Strides for Breast Cancer event in Albuquerque, and over $270,000 was raised to fund research and treatment. Over a QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS!!! What an incredible amount of money from our small area!
Wedding Collective New Mexico’s Diamond Dash Wedding Show- Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, New Mexico
About a month ago, I had the opportunity to participate in the Perfect Wedding Guide's Diamond Dash Wedding Show at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The show itself was an amazing experience, allowing me to meet a lot of brides that were planning weddings in the Albuquerque area. But, it was a LOT of hard work before the show to get this booth ready!
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer- Rio Rancho, New Mexico
At the end of October, I had the pleasure of photographing the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. This event celebrates the culmination of a fundraising season, in which the participants have committed to raise a specific amount of money to be donated via the American Cancer Society to support breast cancer research and support for those undergoing treatment.
Why I Support the American Cancer Society
This year, I will be donating $10.00 per mini session to the American Cancer Society, specifically supporting the Los Lunas Area Relay for Life chapter. While I've been advertising this, I realized that I've never said why I support this organization so much; why I'm raising money for them, and why I've become the event photographer for our local chapter.
Los Lunas, NM Relay for Life- An Interview with Karin Trujillo
I've had the pleasure of being the Los Lunas Area Relay for Life event photographer for the past couple of years, and every year I look forward to this incredible event. One of the many reasons that I became involved with this organization was because of the many people in my life who've had cancer. I've had several relatives pass away because of cancer, and I've been lucky enough to have several friends who've beaten it. Using my talents to give back to this organization is my way of honoring the people in my life who've come up against this horrid disease.
What I Carry in My Emergency Supply Bag- Los Lunas, NM Photographer
Weddings are wonderful, happy, exciting times, but because of this, things tend to happen. Oftentimes, if a couple doesn't have a wedding planner or coordinator, I end up functioning as both the photographer, and the coordinator. That means that a lot of the small issues that arise throughout the day fall to me to take care of. Because of this, I carry an emergency supply bag that is full of all sorts of items wedding parties tend to need, but often forget the day of the wedding. Here's what's in my bag:
The Flores Family: A Military Homecoming- Albuquerque, NM
I had the honor of meeting the Flores family about a month ago, at Master Sergeant Flores' homecoming ceremony. Master Sergeant Flores serves in the Red Horse Battalion of the New Mexico National Guard, and was returning from a six-month deployment to Qatar, where he helped maintain military infrastructure, and supervising the building of new roads.
The Benavidez Family: An Adoption Story in Los Lunas, New Mexico
It was an amazing experience to be included in this event! I'm the type of person that cries when the 'I dos' are exchanged, and when heartfelt stories are shared at funerals, so y'all can imagine I was shedding a lot of happy tears at this event.
